LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. -- The good news: It’s a gorgeous Friday at the lake and the rain predicted is likely to happen this evening, leaving the rest of the weekend perfect for boating.
The not-so-good news: There are two kinds of marinas this weekend, those that had to reorder gas and those that didn’t. The disparity of price is wide as of 9:30 a.m., Friday. It varies as much as $0.55 per gallon from the 1MM to the 35MM.
Boaters have a chance to top off their tanks Sunday and into early next week at select marinas before gas inevitably spikes $0.20-$0.30 with new orders, already predicated by pump prices on land and water.
Horny Toad Marina continues to hold the line at $2.359, chased by Lodge of Four Season who confirmed Friday they intend to charge $2.369 through the weekend. Frankie & Louie’s is pumping at $2.499, Kelly’s Port is staying at $2.599 and G&G Marina, always a solid benchmark, has been forced to raise their price to $2.60. Lighthouse Marina is the low-down fuel king on the lower Osage at $2.339, but a new order for Memorial Day Weekend is likely to drive that price to $2.50 next week.
Prices on the road around the lake this week have increased another $0.10-$0.15 trailing last week’s increase of between $0.20-$0.30. Filling up this week will cost between $2.099-$2.199 -- the cheapest gas in Camdenton.
Oil prices slipped below $58 a barrel Friday on concerns of economic instability in the U.S. and Europe. Benchmark crude for June delivery was down 73 cents to $57.89 a barrel by mid-afternoon in Europe in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Thursday, the contract increased 60 cents to $58.62. Gasoline for June delivery was down 3.18 cents at $1.6919 a gallon.
