OSAGE BEACH, Mo. -- Emergency crews arrived quickly but too late to save a local woman who drowned after driving a Jeep Cherokee backwards out of the parking lot of Dog Days, off a seawall and into Lake of the Ozarks at the 19-mile marker.
According to a TowBoatU.S. Captain, the car floated briefly after entering the water at 9:48 p.m. before submerging into 12-20 feet of water.
Linda Rambo, 54, of Lake Ozark, Mo., was recovered from the vehicle after approximately 19 minutes in the water by TowBoatU.S. Captain Tim McNitt of Atlantis Diving and Salvage.
Emergency crews, not knowing how long it had taken for water to completely penetrate the vehicle, attempted to resuscitate Rambo. They were unsuccessful. She was taken to Lake Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
There were no passengers in the vehicle.
The Osage Beach Department of Public Safety is leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident. While all initial indications suggest drowning as the cause of death, officials have not confirmed it. The Osage Beach Police refused to confirm whether or not an autopsy had been ordered.
Lake Tow recovered the vehicle and towed it to the Lake Port ramp Sunday morning where American Towing picked it up.
Efforts continued late Sunday morning to clean oil from the water.
