DNR finishes processing results of the October sampling blitz at Lake of the Ozarks
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The department has completed processing the samples from the intensive sampling blitz at Lake of the Ozarks, ordered by the governor in October 2009.
Sampling for the water quality study began in October. 78 sites were sampled and analyzed for volatile organic analysis (VOA), pesticides, petroleum fractions, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, non-filterable residue (NFR), chloride, E. coli, and total alkalinity as CaCO3.
The inspection sweep began on Oct. 5. The inspections resulted in 100 letters of warning and 60 notices of violations of Missouri clean water rules. DNR has referred 29 cases to the attorney general’s office.
There are more than 400 wastewater facilities near the Lake of the Ozarks or its major tributaries with DNR-issued operating permits. A map of these facilities is available at http://dnr.mo.gov/loz/map-waterquality.htm

" I agree with Vince on the DNR checking out homes and cabins. But the sad thing about that is the cost of the required system to be in compliance. Where our house is we have been lucky enough to be one the few lake front home owners hooked up to Gravois Sewer District. While this is a added monthly expense, it more than out weighs the cost of new home system. I wish the goverment would help out the lake with the cost of hooking all lake front homes up to city sewer so that generations to come can enjoy a clean healthy lake! "
