LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. — A 27-year-old Columbia man is dead after authorities say he disappeared in the waters near Party Cove on Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Matthew Leverett was swimming near a boat, without a life jacket, around the 4.5 Mile Marker of the Lake of the Ozarks, when he disappeared beneath the surface at around 3 p.m. on June 17. The incident reportedly happened just around the point from Anderson Hollow, commonly known as Party Cove.
Troopers arrived on the scene at 3:50 p.m. and began searching with a side-scan sonar, according to MSHP Sergeant Scott White. Leverett’s body was recovered by Atlantis Dive and Dock Salvage at 5:31 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m.
This is the third drowning in the Lake of the Ozarks during 2016.
