SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. — What every person backing down a boat ramp hopes will not happen, did happen to one man Monday evening.

The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District responded at 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 29 to a 911 emergency call, reporting a man and truck in the Lake of the Ozarks, at the Villages in Sunrise Beach.

According to Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Fire Chief Dennis Reilly, due to mechanical failure the owner of the truck lost control of the vehicle and a boat trailer while attempting to access the Lake via boat ramp. The truck and trailer rolled down the boat ramp and into the lake. The driver was able to escape the vehicle before the truck and the trailer were completely immersed in water.

“Since he was able to exit the truck we went into standby,” Reilly said. The Mid County Fire Protection District Dive Team responded to the scene. A diver was sent into the water; he attached a cable to the submerged truck, and a tow truck pulled it and the trailer out of the water.

The Sunrise Beach FPD, the Mid County FPD Dive Team, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the incident. The SBFPD responded with two engines, one chief’s car, and four firefighters.
