A 22-year-old Warsaw man died in a highway accident on Saturday in Sedalia.

Brandon K. Debates was an occupant in a car driven by Joshua A. Groves, 20, of Sedalia.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Thomas J. Belanger, 47, of Warsaw, was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 65, just north of West Main Street, at 9 p.m. and crossed the center line, hitting Groves' vehicle as he was traveling northbound. Belanger's vehicle came to rest in the road facing southeast, while Groves' vehicle came to rest on the shoulder facing northeast.

Debates was pronounced dead by Benton County coroner Jim Miller and taken to Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw.

Belanger and Groves are both in serious condition, according to the report, and both were taken by Staff for Life to University Hospital in Columbia.

All three involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

An investigation continues.

Information is taken from preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, which do not necessarily contain statements from all parties involved.
